Homemade Birthday Cake

As Ashlyn's birthday was approaching, I was planning what to do for her birthday party. Of course if would pretty much consist of our family and a few friends coming over and we would make some sort of meal for everyone, but I wanted to make something special for her. I recieve a few cake decorating things for Christmas, so I thought I could attempted to be "little miss homemaker" and make her birthday cake this year, thinking it would be fun and save us some money. I searched the Internet to find pictures of birthday cakes that I liked. I finally found a cake that I thought I could definitely make.
(I wish I could remember where I found this picture)

Needless to say, I did not make the whole thing from scratch. I went out and bought all the supplies needed: the cake mix, icing, fondant (which I had never used before), and food coloring. So, the night before her party, I set out to make a beautiful cake for her. About 6 hours later I was finally finished. I am actually pretty impressed with how the cake turned out, especially because I have never attempted to make anything like this before. What do you think?

My Baby is 2!

I can't believe Ashlyn is two! I have been going back and forth between being happy and sad all day. Happy - because she is at such a fun age and is just a little person now. Sad - because she is not a baby anymore....yes, she still needs me, but not like she use to. I think back over the past year and I can see how much she has changed and grown. She is definitely becoming a little girl that I can totally be proud of . Now I know she may hit the "terrible twos" and totally contradict everything I am saying...but she is just the sweetest little girl (hopefully most of you would agree).

I think about what the next year will bring and how much she will grow and learn and I feel like it will just fly by way too fast, much like this year did. Needless to say....I will enjoy every minute of watching my little girl grow up.

Happy Birthday Ashlyn!!!

I love you so much!!!

Cooper is here!

Cooper Venable arrived at 7:41 p.m. last night (1/19)! He is 6 lbs. 15 oz. and 20 inches! And what a cutie he is! Now...technically I am not a blood Aunt, but considering Cassie is one of my best friends...I will be Aunt Sarah! If Jason and I never have a son...he will be the closest to it! I love them all so much and could not be more excited for them! Here are a few pics of the little cutie!

What a cutie!

Happy 2008!

I can't believe it is 2008! I think it is going to be a great year. No big plans for our family this year, but not having too much to do sounds great! I don't know what my New Year's resolution will be....although I hardly ever have one. I just really want to enjoy life and the things God has blessed me with.

Anyways....for New Year's Eve, we had a few friends over. We really didn't have too much planned, because it was kinda last minute. We just didn't want to sit around at our own homes by ourselves for New Year's, we figured that we could all just sit around together. Jason and Casey did bring over their fire pit and we toasted (or burned) marshmallows and made smores (yum!). And Morgan and Rob brought sparklers, which was fun. Here are a few pics from the night.
